Adult Attachment Patterns in a Treatment Context PDF Free

Adult Attachment Patterns in a Treatment Context PDF
By:Sarah Daniel
Published on 2014-08-27 by Routledge

Attachment theory posits that the need for attachment is a life-long phenomenon that becomes especially relevant in times of crisis or trauma. When adults experience illness, accidents, assaults, psychological difficulties or losses, their attachment-behavioural systems are activated, motivating them to seek help and support from family and friends and/or from helping professionals. However, the resulting request for help is affected and shaped by earlier experiences regarding the support and trustworthiness of attachment figures. Can others be trusted? Is it safe to show vulnerability? How should one behave to increase the likelihood of receiving the help needed? Adult Attachment Patterns in a Treatment Context provides an integrated introduction to the subject of adult attachment. Research into adult attachment patterns offers professional helpers a theoretically sound insight into the dynamics underlying a range of client behaviours, including some of the more puzzling and frustrating behaviours such as denying obvious pain or continually pushing the professional for more personal involvement. Sarah Daniel shows how applying knowledge of attachment patterns to treatment settings will improve the way in which professionals engage with clients and the organization of treatments. This book will be relevant to a range of helping professionals such as psychotherapists, psychologists and social workers, both in practice and in training.

The Ethics of Tax Evasion PDF Free

The Ethics of Tax Evasion PDF
By:Robert W. McGee
Published on 2011-12-21 by Springer Science & Business Media

Why do people evade paying taxes? This is the central question addressed in this volume by Robert McGee and a multidisciplinary group of contributors from around the world. Applying insights from economics, public finance, political science, law, philosophy, theology and sociology, the authors consider the complex motivations for not paying taxes and the conditions under which this behavior might be rationalized. Applying theoretical approaches as well as empirical research, The Ethics of Tax Evasion considers three general arguments for tax evasion: (1) in cases where the government is corrupt or engaged in human rights abuses; (2) where citizens claim inability to pay, unfairness in the tax system, paying for things that do not benefit the taxpayer, excessively high tax rates, or where taxes are used to support an unpopular war; and (3) through philosophical, moral, or religious opposition. The authors further explore these issues by asking whether attitudes toward tax evasion differ by country or other demographic variables such as gender, age, ethnicity, income level, marital status, education or religion. The result is a multi-faceted analysis of tax evasion in cultural and institutional context, and, more generally, a study in ethical dilemmas and rational decision making.

A Synthetic Theory of Human Incest Avoidance PDF Free

A Synthetic Theory of Human Incest Avoidance PDF
By:Stephen Michael Diggs
Published on 2000 by

Synthetic method, which combines and integrates research and theory from different disciplines, was used to bring together several seemingly contradictory theories of human incest avoidance (HIA) and knowledge from biology, anthropology, psychoanalysis, and analytical psychology. Biology's concept of four levels of explanation (ultimate, proximate, phylogenetic, and ontogenetic) was used to structure the synthesis and to piece together the disparate perspectives into a unified theory. Incest avoidance was defined as the avoidance of sexual activity with an individual according to the perceived family relationship with the individual. Both too close and too distant relationships are innately avoided. The complexes of phenotypic characteristics that constitute HIA include the childhood association aversion, the caregiving aversion, kin recognition, dispersal, female resistance, pair bond, philopatry, xenophobia, male sexual proprietariness, opportunistic out-mating, defense mechanisms, laws, and prohibitions. The phylogenetic explanation finds the origins of sexual aversion and desire in the reproductive (family) and erotic (sexual) responses of our unicell ancestors. The conscious awareness of the father relationship is a phylogenetic event that makes HIA different from incest avoidance in other animals. The ultimate explanation proposes these species- wide benefits of HIA: it lowers the rate of inbreeding and outbreeding anomalies, and it promotes family and clan harmony, loyalty, and individual and family psychological integrity. The proximate explanation demonstrates how HIA complexes function as mechanisms through imprinting and the identification of the complexes with environmental objects. It is proposed that complexes integrate into generalized states which produce proximate action in a flexible manner. The ontogenetic explanation proposes these developmental tasks as key to FEW bonding and attachment, and separation and individuation (early childhood); splitting the maternal object into familial and erotic aspects, and repression (middle childhood); repression and sublimation and introjection of the cultural taboo (late childhood); puberty and dispersal (adolescence); identification with the familial aspect of the maternal object and bonding (adulthood).

Personality Disorders PDF
By:Jonathan H. Dowson,Adrian T. Grounds
Published on 2006-11-02 by Cambridge University Press

Although the importance of personality disorders have not generally been recognized in clinical practice, they are the origins of many medical consultations and social ills: from substance abuse, alcoholism, self-harm and suicide, to neglect of children, criminality and HIV transmission. In a comprehensive summary and evaluation of the clinical literature, this book seeks to dispel the myth that people with personality disorders are simply individuals for whom nothing can be done. With detailed coverage of recognition, assessment and management, Drs. Dowson and Grounds provide a coordinated empirically-based account of those aspects of personality disorders that are of relevance to psychiatrists and allied disciplines.

Published on 2012-11-12 by Routledge

As Bowlby himself points out in his introduction to this seminal childcare book, to be a successful parent means a lot of very hard work. Giving time and attention to children means sacrificing other interests and activities, but for many people today these are unwelcome truths. Bowlby’s work showed that the early interactions between infant and caregiver have a profound impact on an infant's social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Controversial yet powerfully influential to this day, this classic collection of Bowlby’s lectures offers important guidelines for child rearing based on the crucial role of early relationships.

Avoidant PDF Free

Avoidant PDF
By:Jeb Kinnison
Published on 2014-10-02 by

Jeb Kinnison's previous book on finding a good partner by understanding attachment types (Bad Boyfriends: Using Attachment Theory to Avoid Mr. (or Ms.) Wrong and Make You a Better Partner) brought lots of readers to JebKinnison.com, where the most asked-about topic was how to deal with avoidant lovers and spouses. There are many readers in troubled marriages now who are looking for help, as well as people already invested in a relationship short of marriage who'd like help deciding if they should stick with it. People in relationships with Avoidants struggle with their lack of responsiveness and inability to tolerate real intimacy. Relationships between an Avoidant and a partner of another attachment type are the largest group of unhappy relationships, and people who love their partners and who may have started families and had children with an Avoidant will work very hard to try to make their relationships work better, out of love for their partner and children as well as their own happiness. The Avoidants in these relationships are more than likely unhappy with the situation as well-retreating into their shells and feeling harassed for being asked to respond with positive feeling when they have little to give. The other reason why so many people are looking for help on this topic is that it is an almost impossible problem. Couples counsellors rarely have the time or knowledge to work with an Avoidant and will often advise the spouse to give up on a Dismissive, especially, whose lack of responsiveness looks like cruelty or contempt (and sometimes it is ) Yet there is some hope-though it may take years and require educating the Avoidant on the patterns of good couples communication, if both partners want to change their patterns toward more secure and satisfying models, it can be done. How can you tell if your partner is avoidant? Does your partner: - Seem not to care how you feel? - Frequently fail to respond to direct questions or text messages? - Accuse you of being too needy or codependent? - Talk of some past lover as ideal and compare you to them? - Act coldly toward your children and the needy? - Remind you that he or she would be fine without you? - Withhold sex or affection as punishment? If that sounds familiar, then your partner is likely avoidant. At about 25% of the population, Avoidants have shorter, more troubled relationships, and tend to divorce more frequently and divorce again if remarried. What can be done? Individual therapy for the motivated Avoidant can move their default attachment style toward security, and to the extent that problems have been made worse by an overly clingy and demanding anxious-preoccupied partner, therapy can help there, as well. Partners who read and absorb the lessons of these books will have a head start on noticing and restraining themselves when they are slipping into an unsatisfying communications pattern, and an intellectual understanding of the bad patterns is a step toward unlearning them. Not all difficult Avoidants can be reformed; that depends on both partners, the depth of their problems, and their motivation and ability to change over time. But many troubled marriages and relationships can be greatly improved, and the people in them can learn to be happier, with even modest improvements in understanding how they can best communicate support for each other. For those reading who have not read Bad Boyfriends or are less familiar with attachment types, a beefed-up section on attachment theory and attachment types from Bad Boyfriends is included. Regular readers of JebKinnison.com will find edited versions of some relevant material previously posted there.
